From the northernmost Atlantic beach at Columbus Monument (left) to the southernmost Caribbean beach at Gordon's (right), Long Island in the Bahamas has been blessed with miles of sandy beaches, each one gorgeous in its own way, and on any particular day, one especially more beautiful than any other, with crystal clear water with blues for which there are no names.
Our first visit to Long Island was ‘way’ back in 2011. Within a matter of days, our favorite phrase was “AGB”, an acronym for Another Gorgeous Beach. This is an attempt to write a “complete” compilation of Long Island’s AGB's. If you’re visiting it’s most certain that, unlike Nassau, you’re here for more than 24 hours. You’re here for at least a week, if not more, to relax, get away from it all (as much as one can in this wired world), and enjoy the natural beauty of Long Island. Much of that beauty lies in its many and varied beaches. For the first time visitor the choices may be daunting. Even for the repeat visitor, memory of “which road do I turn on to get to this beach” may be a bit hazy. I’ve been there and done that, several times. Thank God, this is an island and you can’t get lost.
As for “complete,” this complication probably isn’t. As a repeat visitor, I’ve visited most of the easily and not so easily accessible beaches. And googlemaps earthview revealed some that had me shaking my head and exclaiming “How did I miss that one!” I’m certain that I may have missed a beach that Long Islanders know of but may be very difficult to get to by car or can only be accessed by boat. And this compilation can only be “complete” as of the latest sea, storm, or hurricane transformation.
Take the time to explore this site to find your own Long Island AGB. And then come to the Bahamas and Long Island to visit its beaches, to experience the beauty of the land and sea, and to enjoy the warmth of the Islanders, many who have become our close friends over the years.
