Lochabar Point Beach and Blue Hole, Long Island, Bahamas

Near South > Clarence Town Area
DIRECTIONS:  Heading south:  After the hard 90o turn that the QH makes in Clarence Town, you’ll pass two ponds on the right, a road to the right (goes to Galloway), and then you’ll come a large pond on the right.  In 0.4 miles there will be a road to the left with a sign for “Gems”.  Don’t take this.  The next road to the left will have a sign for "Harbor Breeze Villas".  Turn here to get to the northenmost part of Lochabar beach.  There is a road that cuts through the villas that will take you to the blue hole.  If you just want to get to the blue hole, just south of the second right hand pond there is a rather nondescript paved road at a right angle to the QH.  Take this.  It ends in a nice turn around and parking area which puts you right next to the blue hole and also at the point itself.   The earthview map should make this easier to understand.  Heading north:  From Dunmore, the QH consists of several straight sections with gentle left hand bends between them.  At 3.5 miles from Dunmore, you’ll encounter the first right bend.  There is a large building on the left and immediately a road to the right.  In 0.6 mile there will be another road to the right.  Take this if you want to get to the blue hole.  If you miss this, just turn at Harbor Breeze Villas sign.  Note that the southern end of the large pond on the western side of the QH lies mid way between these two roads.  So use the pond as a visual reference.

Because this beach lies behind all the cays protecting Clarence Town harbour, it is really a Caribbean type of beach.  It’s a wonderful walking beach, although a bit bereft of treasures, at least the times that we’ve visited.  We’ve not swum or snorkeled.  However, reports are that the blue hole part is nice for the latter.

Left, the short section north of the entrance to this part.  Right, the longer southern section.  It’s about 2100' from here to the point.
